What Is An Air Switch In A Kitchen?

An air switch is a simple on-off switch. An air switch turns the device on and off with a puff of air. When the push-button on the switch is pressed, air travels along a connected air tube and pushes / activates the switch which turns on the device, in this case the Garbage disposal.

Why is an Air Switch Used In A Kitchen?

In a kitchen, an Air switch push button is installed on the granite countertop and controls the operation of the garbage disposal. The Air switch activates the garbage disposal's electric on/off switch by using an air tube, so water does not come in contact with the disposal's electronics. Because this area is usually surrounded by water, an electrical connection should not be made nearby. It is also safe for the user to activate the device with wet hands due to this feature.
